Hartford conglomerate United Technologies Corp. announced on Thursday 150 layoffs of salaried employees at its newly formed UTC Aerospace Systems, including 70 in Windsor Locks.
The layoffs come as UTC combines its Hamilton Sundstrand subsidiary with newly acquired Goodrich to form UTC Aerospace Systems.
Of the layoffs announced Thursday, 70 will come out of the 4,000 positions out of the facility in Windsor Locks formerly called Hamilton Sundstrand. The remainder will be from other UTC Aerospace Systems facilities around the world.
The company also announced the closure of UTC Aerospace System's intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance facility in Ithaca, N.Y. Because of that closure, 24 new positions will be created in UTC's Danbury facility.
UTC on Thursday said it had begun the process to eliminate 300 hourly positions in Connecticut, a plan announced in March 2011. The company wants to reduce the workforce through attrition, reassignment, voluntary separation, and the layoffs.
