Buying a space between walls governed by someone else has no appeal for anyone with any sense.

Yes. Home condos provide ownership benefits without the individual never - ending time and financial upkeep requirement.

Uncontrolled maintenance fees. Overly political boards. Autonomous living is still the most efficient and relatively worry free.

Every time I think about mowing the lawn, shoveling snow, more and more grass fertilizer, trim trees and paint the house, sure its attractive.

As more and more folks want to take advantage of what they offer, you bet they are.

Certainly not for me because I don't want to share walls, endure the nosy, curmudgeonly neighbors that seem to be part and parcel of condo life, or deal with condo fees and a condo board. Plus I love my fenced in yard, garden, and having a dog. But other people still still seem to value the low maintenance that condo living provides over the things that are important to me.

Unless you have the money to buy a condo to live in for a few years (or more), it's not worth it. I'd rather rent for an extended period of time, then buy a single-family home.

Yes - many Boomers will be/are looking for an alternative like that so they have more free time to enjoy life vs single family home maintenance. On the other hand, the fees have to stay reasonable and one is always taking the chance the shared wall may be inhabited by someone who is loud, smokes and whose lack of housekeeping brings unwanted critters into your home. Having done both, a single family home is the way to go for me (and I am a Boomer).
