Is expanding the state-run CTtransit bus service from Hartford to Storrs smart policy?

Yes, as long as UConn or the UConn Foundation pick up the full incremental costs.

Absolutely not good policy from a fiscal point of view. Until we can see base line measures on the net costs for the existing lines just built, how can we keep throwing money at subsidized transit and building on our ever-increasing deficits?

No and Yes. The buses exist, the roads exist, so this is going to happen even if people are for or against it! We are just building another different color bus company.

Absolutely. Who wants more cars on I-84? CTtransit service is a much more efficient way of moving people than having each person drive alone in a car, so you'd think conservatives would appreciate the efficiency. A good part of CT's stagnant economy has to do with our close-minded culture, particularly on transportation options. What millennials and talented knowledge workers want to be where they have to drive to work and spend hours on their ars, commuting? If we had better multi-modal transportation systems, GE wouldn't have been so isolated in a stodgy suburban office park. A Fastrak express between Hartford

Yes, but students and faculty should be required to pay a fare, even a reduced amount.

Here we go again paying for bus costs where the only time one might be close to full is if UCONN has a game at the Civic Center. More taxpayer funds down the drain. But oh, the upside is the unions get more state jobs.

Anecdotally speaking, my travels throughout the US suggests that safe robust transit options are an exceptionally important to the overall economic health of a community. Public transit even benefits those who do not use public transportation. (http://voicesforpublictransit.org/content.aspx?Page=issues

Yes! It's a pain to get to Storrs, especially without a car

But CTransit needs to be streamlined. It shouldn't take two hours to take a bus across a few towns over.

It is bad policy, in this economy, to guess the need before it's apparent.
