United Bank eyes 1st downstate branch

United Bank of Hartford says it's pursuing its first Fairfield County branch in Greenwich.

The community lender, which last year relocated headquarters to downtown Hartford from Glastonbury, said Thursday it has filed papers with the state Banking Department for permission to debut a full-service branch at 415 Greenwich Ave.

It would be United's 54th branch in its Connecticut-southern Massachusetts network when it opens as scheduled in early 2019, United said.

United CEO William H.W. Crawford IV says the success of its three-year-old Westport loan production office on Green Farms Road drove it to pursue the Fairfield County branch that will feature multiple teller stations, ATM access, office space, and a conference room.
