A New York information-technology vendor to businesses has opened its first office outside the Empire State, in downtown Hartford.

STEADfast IT, of Saratoga, N.Y., says it leased space in the 100 Pearl St. skyscraper and expects to have staff working there as of April 1. The company has 14 employees in New York.

While the Hartford presence will be a modest two employees to start, Meifert said the hope is to add more if the company is successful in winning new clients.

"We felt that the corridor from Springfield to Hartford to New Haven was just a really terrific fit in terms of the businesses we are focused on," said Dawn Meifert, STEADfast's marketing director.

STEADfast offers end-user IT support, network management, off-site backup and a variety of other services.

The company claims 110 clients in its home state, including banks, construction and energy firms ranging from 15 to 150 end users. It also targets physician groups, which are required to adhere to medical privacy laws. Meifert said the company competes in the IT market on its response speeds.
