The city of New Britain is offering a $1,000 gift pack and lots of exposure to the person who crafts a catchy melody and lyrics touting the city's business, cultural and lifestyle amenities to tourists.

Mayor Erin Stewart's office issued Monday a public casting call for novice or pro advertising jingle writers/producers who can deliver the winning promo based on its latest marketing tag line, "Experience The New."

The contest period began May 15 and ends at midnight on Aug. 1.

"We have undertaken a marketing initiative recently … and thought a jingle would be a unique way to let individuals know about all the new things that are happening in New Britain,'' said mayor's spokesman David Huck.

Last year, the city published a new digital visitors' guide and will do another printing of the book this summer, Huck said.

The winner's work may appear in upcoming ads and will receive a prize pack of $1,000 worth of local gift cards, merchandise, among other items, Huck said.

Among the rules, contestants must be legal Connecticut residents and at least 18 years old; entries must be in English; and only one entry per contestant.
