New Britain's Gaffney Bennett Public Relations says it's added a North Carolina-based communications executive to operate there and with its existing team in New York City.

Gaffney Bennett, headquartered at 1 Liberty Square, on Wednesday announced it hired Ted Novin, a former spokesman for the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), as a senior advisor to the firm. He began Jan. 1 based in New York City and North Carolina, where he founded his own firm, Kincade Communications.

GBPR has now added three members to its Manhattan operation on Madison Avenue in the last year.

Novin has been advising corporate, trade association and agency clients on public affairs and "reputational matters" for more than 20 years, GBPR said.

Notably, he previously served as a spokesman and public affairs official for NRA in Washington D.C. between 2000 and 2004, according to his LinkedIn page. He also spent six years as a director of public affairs and senior spokesman for the firearms industry at NSSF based in Newtown from 2006 to 2012.

Novin then became a chief spokesman and director of corporate communications, government relations and public affairs for firearms manufacturer Remington Outdoor Co., before launching his own firm in 2015.

"Over the course of his two-decade career, he has overseen numerous high-profile crisis and issues management situations across a range of industries, helping to build credibility and mitigate reputational risk for clients when they need it most," said Hank Spring, co-founder and managing partner of GBPR.
