The Hartford has donated $3 million to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to create 30 new college and career centers across the U.S., including one this year at a local club in the city of Hartford.

The Hartford will serve as the founding partner of the college and career centers, which will provide teen Boys & Girls Club members with new ways to explore career paths to help prepare them for their next step after high school.

Besides the college and career center in Hartford, nine others are launching this year in New Jersey, Missouri, Wisconsin, California, Texas, Florida and Tennessee, the insurer said.

The partnership also allows Boys & Girls Clubs of America to enhance its "Career Launch" digital resources, reaching 70,000 teens a year.

The Hartford said its employees will have an opportunity to become involved at their local Boys & Girls Club, adding to the history of volunteerism that the company encourages year-round.

The gift is not part of the insurer's share of a $50 million pledge it and and two other insurers have made to bailout the cash-strapped city of Hartford.
