PE firm takes majority stake in Women's Health USA

A Boston-based private equity firm has taken a majority ownership in Avon women's health services provider Women's Health USA.

Whusa disclosed the arrangement with Sverica Capital Management LLC on Wednesday, but did not reveal financial terms.

"We do have new majority ownership, but a number of people will still have a stake in the company, including Robert E. Patricelli, the founder, CEO and a former majority shareholder," said Leslie Stedman, vice president of marketing.

Founded in 1997, Women's Health has built a national managed services platform focused on OBGYN and in vitro fertilization physicians. Sverica describes itself as a lower-middle-market firm that acquires and builds companies that are, or could become, leaders in their industries.

"Our new partnership with Sverica will give [us] the capital and backing to grow faster and to be more supportive of women's health physicians who are looking to remain independent but at the same time be part of a national network of high quality professionals," said Patricelli.

Whusa provides business services for physicians who want to focus on their medical practice.
