Otis Saudi Arabia, a division of Farmington's Otis Elevators, has been chosen to provide escalators, moving walkways and elevators in the Riyadh Metro project, which constitutes the backbone of the future public transit system in the country's capital city.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Otis will supply 256 escalators, six moving walkways and 183 elevators with travel speeds of up to a meter a second.

The elevators and escalators will be installed within all stations at three metro lines, two train depots and three car parking facilities.

Otis, which operates in Saudi Arabia as Otis Elevator Company Saudi Arabia Limited, is part of a joint venture between Otis Elevator Company (New Jersey) and E.A. Juffali & Brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh is contracting with Otis and partners Samsung C&T, Alstom, Strukton, and Freyssinet Saudi Arabia.

Fernando Condinho, managing director, Otis Saudi Arabia said the project is a significant one for the local Saudi Arabian community.
