Cheshire fast-food chain Wayback Burgers says its first franchise restaurant in Casablanca, Morocco, has opened as part of the chain's international expansion.

Franchisees Youssef Elmrani and Moutie Benhamza debuted the first of their Wayback restaurants at 10 Bis Rue Ibn Yala Al Ifrani, Maarif, Casablanca. Both bought the rights to develop eight Wayback Burger outlets in Morocco, the company said.

Three more are set to open in Morocco by late 2019, with two to three more opening after that, Wayback said.

Wayback Burgers currently operates in 28 states, with more than 142 locations worldwide.

Wayback Director of International Development Jason Murawski said the franchisor plans to open in 35 provinces/countries in the Middle East, Northern Africa, Argentina, Pakistan, Brunei, The Netherlands, Bangladesh; Alberta, Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Canada; and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It also has pending letters of intent to establish outlets in South Africa and the United Kingdom.
