Southington weighs $3M age-restricted housing project

Groton developer Hunter Build LLC is proposing a $3 million, 40 unit age-restricted multifamily project in Southington.

The project, to be built at at 37 and 43 Hunter's Lane, has been before Southington's Planning & Zoning Commission since November and a Jan. 2 public hearing has been extended to Tuesday.

Hunter Build LLC member Robert "Rusty" Rogers says his firm is seeking a special permit for the project in a residential zone.

The proposed 55-plus multifamily project would be built on 24 acres and feature ranch-style, one-floor units with garages. The project includes 32 two-bedroom units and eight one-bedroom units, Rogers said. He said real estate surveys he and his partner, Carl Verderame, have seen reflect a need for this type of development.

Hunter Build LLC's first project was a subdivision of 19 single family homes on Hunters Lane, Rogers said.

If approved, the multifamily project could break ground in March and take up to 18 months to complete, he said.
