NSF's Bristol lab sold

The Michigan operator of a Bristol lab that provides patient-safety testing services to the pharmaceutical, biotech and medical-device sectors has sold the facility to one of its former top scientists.

Kurt Moyer, who was the lab's general manager, purchased former NSF Pharmalytica, now called Pine Lake Laboratories, from NSF International, of Ann Arbor, Mich. The deal included all systems, scientific equipment and its registration with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA). Terms were not disclosed.

Moyer, a 25-year industry veteran who previously was NSF's research director, and staff of scientists will run the lab that specializes in extractables and leaching testing of products under development to treat patients in the U.S. and abroad. The lab also will continue to perform testing method development and validation, and analytical testing of combination products.

Prior to joining NSF International, Moyer was a senior researcher at drugmaker Sanofi-Aventis, and was a senior research investigator at DuPont Pharmaceuticals.

He has a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Villanova University and a BS in chemistry from Millersville University of Pennsylvania.
