A Connecticut-based fitness chain with 13 gyms in the state says it's building new sites in Delaware and Pennsylvania.

The Edge Fitness Clubs, which has locations between Greenwich and Manchester, recently announced plans to open gyms in Christiana, Del., and Media, Penn., in early 2019. The Edge also recently opened gyms in Bristol and Philadelphia.

The latest expansion marks the club's 12th new location in the last three years.

The Edge plans to continue growing in 2019, with new locations in Detroit, Mich., Providence, R.I., and St. Louis, Mo.

"We foresee 2019 as a big year for The Edge and are excited about continuing our growth and expansion," said Joe Moretti, senior vice president of operations at The Edge. "Not only is this a thrilling time in The Edge's history, but we're looking forward to bringing high-end facilities, amenities and amazing fitness results to these communities."

The boutique fitness club, which has other Connecticut locations in Meriden, Hamden, Danbury, Fairfield and Shelton, offers a variety of studio instruction and several unique amenities, including an indoor turf area, a treadmill cinema, saunas and areas for massages or tanning. Facilities also include a child care center.

Founded by Vincent Sansone and his wife, Laurie, in 1988, the fitness club is now headquartered in Orange where its flagship gym opened in 2016.

Today, the Edge has 19 locations including four that opened in New Jersey this year. Sansone has said he envisions 50-plus clubs by the end of 2021, with clusters in multiple states east of the Mississippi. The club says it has more than 150,000 members.
