Downtown Hartford developer Marc Levine dies

Marc S. Levine, whose redevelopment of several downtown Hartford commercial buildings paved the way to more people calling the center city home, died Tuesday, according to his online obituary in the Hartford Courant. He was 77.

Levine and his partners in Marc S. Levine Interests built The Lofts at Main & Temple apartments around the former Sage-Allen department store building in 2007.

In 2014, Levine spent $3 million to upgrade the partnership's Residence Inn Marriott on Main Street. At the time he said he saw potential for one more downtown office tower.

A lawyer, he was born in Meriden and graduated from Maloney High School. He also graduated from Brown University and Georgetown Law Center, his obituary said.

Funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Beth El Temple.
