Hartford utility operator Eversource Energy overcame a loss in its natural-gas operations to post higher third-quarter profit.

For three months ended Sept. 30, the electric, water and natural-gas distributor said it netted $289.4 million, or 91 cents a share, up from $260.4 million, or 82 cents, netted the same quarter last year.

Third-quarter revenue totaled $2.3 billion vs. $2 billion a year earlier.

Eversource also reaffirmed its projected 2018 earnings per share of $3.20 to $3.30 and its long-term EPS growth rate of 5 percent to 7 percent, Eversource Chairman and CEO Jim Judge said.
