A community skating rink is returning to Hartford's Bushnell Park a day after Thanksgiving.

The ninth annual Winterfest Hartford begins Friday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. with free ice skating, skate rentals and classes lasting through Jan. 6.

The event is put on by promotional initiative iQuilt Partnership, a private-public redevelopment partnership aimed at connecting downtown Hartford's cultural assets. The group includes many local stakeholders, including the city of Hartford, the state of Connecticut, MetroHartford Alliance, Riverfront Recapture, Greater Hartford Arts Council and others.

Numerous events are slated for the 45-day Winterfest, which provides free skates everyday between 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Entertainment includes "Music Mondays" featuring hit songs from the '70s, '80s, '90s, Broadway and Disney, and a giant game room with jenga, chess and checkers.

Families can also receive one free photo at Santa's Workshop on several dates.

Also on-site, MetroHartford Alliance's young professional group HYPE and the Bushnell Young Professionals will host a happy hour event on Thursday, Dec. 13 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin will join iQuilt at Bushnell Park on Tuesday at 11 a.m. to announce the event's presenting sponsor and highlight its new offerings.

The event drew 40,000 skaters in 2017 and another 40,000 to 50,000 spectators, officials said.
