Retailer Raymour & Flanigan Furniture is looking to significantly expand its Manchester warehouse space to improve storage and delivery logistics, town records show.

The New York-based company has proposed to add on a 199,466-square-foot addition and 8,400-square-foot materials processing facility at its Chapel Road site, which currently spans 300,650 square feet, according to town records.

Raymour & Flanigan, through its real estate arm Hartford CDC LLC, is seeking a special exception and other approvals from the town to move forward with the expansion. Manchester's Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to discuss the application Monday at 7 p.m.

According to plans, Raymour & Flanigan plans to build the larger addition on the north end of the existing building, which is housed on 29.55 acres near other major industrial facilities including Hartford Distributors and the JCPenney Warehouse and Distribution Center.

The new facility would provide 16 loading docks in the Northwest corner of the addition, amounting to 64 total docks on-site.

Plans also include a new 8,400-square-foot materials-processing building in an area currently paved in the south portion of the existing warehouse, built in 1981. This addition would be used to prepare recyclable material used in the packaging of furniture goods for sale on the secondary market.

Raymour & Flanigan, which bought the warehouse for $16 million in 2012, operates a store in Manchester at 50 Hale Road. It also has brick-and-mortar sites in West Hartford, Newington, Avon, Waterbury and five others in the southern belt of Connecticut, according to its website.
